Introduction

WORK JAPAN is a multi-language platform designed to connect foreign job seekers with Japanese employers and to facilitate a range of services that support foreigners in building a life in Japan. The platform offers job search assistance, guidance on living in Japan, and access to services such as mobile SIM cards, online Japanese courses, and more.

The project involved a comprehensive redesign of the WORK JAPAN website’s user experience (UX), with a specific focus on the critical landing page. This case study details the redesign process, highlighting the new UX design elements, including the overhaul of icons and the improvement in user flow.

Design Objectives
  • Enhanced User Experience: Improve overall user experience by redesigning the website’s landing page and optimizing the flow of information.

  • Visual Clarity: Create a visually appealing and user-friendly interface that effectively communicates key information and services.

  • Intuitive Navigation: Simplify navigation through the use of easily recognizable icons and a logical layout to help users find relevant information quickly.

Design Features
1.    Redesigned Landing Page
  • Focus on Critical Information: The landing page was reimagined to prominently feature essential information and services. It now includes clear calls-to-action (CTAs) for job searches, services, and cultural information.

  • Visual Hierarchy: A structured layout with distinct sections for different types of content helps users quickly identify their needs and navigate the site effectively.

  • Enhanced Aesthetics: The redesign employs a modern visual style with a clean, engaging design that aligns with the platform’s purpose of connecting job seekers and employers.

2.   Iconography Overhaul
  • Job Categories: Icons were redesigned for each job category to improve recognition and recall. These icons use distinct shapes and colors, making it easier for users to find job listings in specific industries such as construction, hotels, and factories.

  • Major Cities: Icons representing the most populated cities in Japan were also updated. These city icons are designed to be visually distinctive and informative, helping users quickly navigate to job opportunities in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and other key locations.

  • Significance and Usability: The new icons are more meaningful and memorable, enhancing users' ability to understand and remember different sections of the site. This design choice supports better user interaction and aids in quicker navigation.

  • Streamlined User Flow: The redesign improves the overall flow of the landing page by organizing information into easily accessible sections. Users can now seamlessly transition between job search features, service listings, and cultural resources.

  • Intuitive Layout: Key sections are logically arranged to guide users through their journey, from finding a job to accessing additional services. This intuitive layout helps users efficiently accomplish their goals on the platform.

4.    Multilingual Support
  • Consistent Experience: The redesign maintains consistency across multiple languages, ensuring that users from different linguistic backgrounds have a cohesive experience. The layout and icons are designed to be effective and comprehensible regardless of the language.
